“One of the greatest shows on earth” can be heard at dawn, according to
award-winning author and birdsong expert Donald Kroodsma. A professor
emeritus at UMass and author of The Singing Life of Birds, Kroodsma
shares and interprets his amazing recordings made pre-sunrise, the time
when bird performances are especially energized and males are telling
all the songs they know in the shortest amount of time.
For some species, special songs are also invoked at dawn. Join Kroodsma
on this special acoustical tour of some of the finest and most
intriguing dawn performers among North American passerines.
Co-sponsored by PEM, this program is made possible by a generous gift
from Tim and Joanie Ingram in memory of Dorothy Addams Brown, beloved
honorary PEM trustee and devoted ECOC member.
